Advent

E-mail Print

Advent is the first season of Christian Liturgical Year in the period of three years.  Advent, translated from the Latin word adventus, means "coming."  It is a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas.  Many Western Churches recognize the four Sundays before Christmas as Advent Sundays.

Advent is the beginning of the Christian Liturgical Year and begins on the first Advent Sunday.  For example, December 4 is the first Advent Sunday and the beginning of a New Christian Liturgical Year.  ...

The theme of readings and teachings of Advent is to prepare for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ while commemorating the first coming of Jesus Christ.
